Ayurveda e-learning’ is a online computer based learning program on Ayurveda by
IPGT&RA,
Gujarat Ayurved University, Jamnagar, a sponsored project of Dept. of
AYUSH, Ministry of Health &FW, Govt. of India.
Ayurveda, the art and science of healthy living has its origin from The Vedic literatures;
it is considered as 5th Veda and also as
Upaveda of
Atharva Veda by many.
Documentation of Ayurveda started in about 1500 BC by
Agnivesha (the author of (
Charaka Samhita) and there are hundreds of literary works available on this science, the main language of discourse is Sanskrit. The School of Medicine (
Atreya – Charaka Sampradaya) and The School of Surgery (
Dhanwantari – Sushruta Sampradaya) are the two main branches of knowledge found in Ayurveda, and it is Ayurveda to have 8 clinical specialities too for the first time in medical history.
Fracture and joint displacement management, artificial limb, plastic surgery, homogenous and heterogenous organ and body part transplantation, laparotomy, brain surgery etc. are credits of Surgical School, whereas affective use of hundreds of plants, metals, minerals, animal products, and poisonous drugs etc. as pharmacological agents in medicine are credits of Medical School of Ayurveda. Effective antenatal care, midwifery, post natal care, neonatal and child care etc. too are explained in a very detailed manner in the texts of Ayurveda.
Rasayana (the rejuvenation therapy)
, Panchakarma (the fivefold bio-purification therapy)
, Ksharasutra (medicated alkaline thread therapy) etc. are the unique contribution to health care by Ayurveda.This “Sensitization Course in Ayurveda” comprises of about 60 teaching modules prepared by expert teachers from the university aims at giving a brief outlook of the subject Ayurveda, the ancient Medical heritage of Indian subcontinent to the medical fraternity world over.
